Spaces of Care and Kinship. Catholic Charities and Social Presence in Cuba, 1991-2021

Abstract

On a Sunday morning, Catholic communities around Cuba celebrate the Mass as the liturgical focal point of the week. Although the estimates are that approximately 60 percent of Cubans are baptized in the Catholic Church, only 1-2 percent regularly attend religious services. In this group, the elderly especially women constitute the daily protagonists of religious belonging and activities (observation, March 2015; observation, January 2021).
